根据IF官方前期公布的消息，iF设计大奖颁奖典礼原定于2020年5月4日晚在弗里德里希皇宫剧院（Friedrichstadt-Palast）举行。iF设计展也定于2020年5月2日至10日在柏林时尚的地标性建筑Cafe Moskau举办。
3月16日，我们也收到iF设计奖首席执行官Ralph Wiegmann邮件通知：在发出邀请邮件后，收到了大约40%的收件人的取消或不确定的答案，且疫情形势日益严峻的情况下，决定取消举行2020年柏林IF设计奖的颁奖典礼和展览！
邮件中提到：计划亲自将获奖雕塑赠送给75名金奖获得者。在此，我们再一次恭贺这75位获奖者，在7,298件参赛作品中突围而出，一举夺得金奖殊荣。

This is one of the saddest moments in my 24-year career at iF so far. Never before since 1953 has there been anything like it:
We have to cancel the awards ceremony and the exhibition of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2020 in Berlin! After sending out our invitation mail we received already cancellations or uncertain answers from about 40 percent of the recipients – and since then the situation got way more serious and there is no alternative to our decision. The Berlin Design Week has also already been cancelled.
The coronavirus has dominated the headlines in the media since the end of last year and is now having an impact on the daily lives of many people worldwide. An unforeseeable but very large number of small companies is now facing a situation that threatens their existence. Countries and cities are shut down, travelling is almost impossible, social contacts should be reduced to the minimum. Luckily we can read first positive messages from China and South Korea where the numbers of new infections seem to shrink. Europe became the center right now and our German government prepared us to expect the peak in the coming weeks or months. So, postponing our events until June is still to risky, July and August are international summer holiday month. And after that, it’s simply too late.
It was incredibly difficult for all of us to make this decision, but an pandemic of this magnitude and the health and safety issues involved must, of course, take priority.
It is our plan to present the sculptures to our 75 gold award winners personally – but here, too, we have to admit that we don’t know when that will be possible.
We felt it was our duty to inform you of our decision as soon as possible. But you probably have many more worries yourself than we do with our events. We sincerely hope that this virus epidemic remains without major consequences and repercussions for you all, your families and friends and for your companies.
We look forward to meeting you again one day after overcoming this crisis and will be working.
